Prime Circle have come a long way. They’ve made a name for themselves both locally and abroad and have shared the stage with a number of international acts. The band just released their fifth studio album Evidence and with over a decade of experience in the music industry, it’s only safe to assume that they’ve got a few things to say…
Congratulations on a 5th studio album! What’s the reception been like so far?
Thank you, it has been amazing, the true test has been performing live and seeing people’s responses, it’s always cool seeing people sing along and get into the new stuff
Interesting album title Evidence what’s the concept behind it?
The album is evidence of our work and where we are as a band. We thought it would be a good title, specially because we love this song.
How does Evidence differ from your previous albums?
It is a bit more punchy with regards to the rock songs. The contrast from heavy to soft is apparent in this album.
What was the recording process like and how many tracks did you write before deciding on the final twelve?
This time round it was a lot more fun because we had done a lot of pre-production at Dale’s studio (Dale Schnettler, the drummer) before heading off to Cape Town. We wrote roughly 30 ideas before ending up with the final 12
When can we expect new music videos from the album?
We have just finished the video for Evidence, which should be out ontv from next week. It has flighted on two programmes already. We would love to do a video for all the songs so watch this space, maybe we can pull it off.
Prime Circle are one of few SA bands that have been playing together for over a decade. What’s your secret?
We can take a punch from critics and each other, we love what we do and try and leave ego out of it.
What would you say is the most important aspect to being a successful band?
Songs, a lot of people get caught up in their own hype and forget that’s about the music and getting out there and touring.
Speaking of touring, you guys seem to tour Europe quite often, what has the reception been like over there and do you plan to conquer the U.S. anytime soon?
We love playing in Europe, the reception has been unbelievable, especially after the 3 Doors Down tours (we playedwith 3 Doors Down, Alter Bridge and Seether in Europe)
If you could tour with any band you wanted, who would it be?
We are all massive Foo Fighters and Biffy Clyro fans, but touring internationally with 3 Doors Down was a dream come true.
What’s your take on the SA music scene at the moment?
It is in a good place, unfortunately there is a big lack of venues, but the bands and production is way up there. I love SA music.
Best gig ever?
Hard to say, there has been so many amazing shows, hard to pick one. The 46664 concert sticks out.
Now that you have a new album is 2013 all about touring or do you have any other tricks up your sleeve?
All about touring, we will be shooting more videos and hitting the road hard. It’s what we love, we are road dogs.
